Mississippi Cannabis Allotment Guide: Your “Units” Explained

If you’re a Mississippi medical cannabis patient, you’ve probably heard the terms allotment and units at some point. 

And if your first thought was, what does that even mean? You’re not alone. 

Mississippi uses an allotment system to determine how much medical cannabis everyone can purchase within a certain period of time. It can seem complicated at first, especially because different types of products don’t always translate into the system in a clean way. 

Here’s the simple version: 

What is an MMCEU?

MMCEU stands for Mississippi Medical Cannabis Equivalency Unit. Rather than setting one limit for flower, another for concentrates, another for edibles, Mississippi uses the equivalency units to put different product types into the same allotment system. 

How Much Can A Mississippi Medical Patient Purchase? 

MMCEU’s or “units” are based on a rolling allotment period rather than simply resetting at the beginning of a new month. Most patients are allotted 24 MMCEU. Your available allotment will change with each purchase according to the type of cannabis products and the amount you purchase and rolls over exactly 30 days from the time and date of purchase. 

For example: 

If you visited a dispensary on August 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm and purchased 3 eighths of flower, you have spent 3 units. Those 3 units will roll back again 30 days later, in this example, September 15, 2026 at 2:01pm. 

Your available allotment can therefore change throughout the month depending on how much and what you’ve purchased. 

You don’t have to keep track of all that math yourself. Patients can view their current allotment through the MMCP licensing portal, and we’re always happy to help you understand what’s currently available to you before you visit. 

So What Does 1 MMCEU Actually Equal? 

Here’s where it gets easier: 

1 MMCEU = 3.5 grams of flower = 1000mg of Concentrates or infused products.

So, for flower:

1 Eighth (3.5g) = 1 Unit

1 Quarter (7g) = 2 Units

½ Ounce (14g) = 4 Units

1 Ounce (28g) = 8 Units

Different product types can use your allotment differently, which is why something physically small (like a concentrate) doesn’t necessarily count the same way as the same physical weight of flower. 

You can check your units by logging into your portal at Login | Mississippi DOH Portal  and select license dashboard, open your patient license, and your available allotment for flower, infused rpoducts, and concentrates will appear at the top of the page.
